Description:
The technical study prior to the restoration of the Entombment revealed a sanitary state of the work that was more alarming than expected. Many hazardous restorations have accumulated over time. It is possible to trace it back to the end of the 19th century, but the complexity of the polychromy demonstrates that there must have been revisions in the century following its creation. These restorations attempted with the means of the time to resolve various problems, notably salts, which however seem to be stabilized today and make it possible to envisage a restoration in good conditions. However, climate monitoring must be considered to support this hypothesis. It is rather these interventions in themselves which now pose a problem in the conservation of the work. A fundamental restoration is essential to remove the products from harmful restoration and unsightly fillings, to ensure the transmission of this priceless work of art.-.
