The city of Strasbourg wished to initiate a heritage renovation, update, an improvement in energy performance, a redesign of the scenic tool, A redistribution of spaces and an extension of the National Rhine Opera (ONR) located at Place Broglie with the aim of improving the conditions of reception of the public and work of the ONR staff. This exceptional building, located in Grande-Ile and near the Neustadt district Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as in the remarkable heritage site of Strasbourg with safeguarding and enhancement plan, was inaugurated in 1821 then ravaged by a fire in 1870 which left only the masonry. The main facade and its colonnade are today classified as historic monuments. It was reconstructed identically in 1872 and was the subject of a scenic modernization between 1939 and 1945. Finally, in the 2000s, the building was the subject of work to improve accessibility and the evacuation of the public.
