The Voltaire cultural center was built between 1960 and 1965. Its construction was finalized with that of the Rouen arts theatre. If this one remained in the line of post-war constructions of the Perret type, the Voltaire cultural center is as for theui much more open to the outside with large windows on the main facade which makes it possible to classify it in a more "modern" architecture for the time.
It was the subject of some modifications in the 80s without its capacity and its interior volume is altered.
The cbetween cultural Voltaire, used mainly for shows, theater and conferences now presents problems of use and design mainly due to its sixty-year-old construction.
The most important constraint remains accessibility. Several half-levels are present et access to all the rooms, hall and amenities has stairs. If the theater does not have any at the level of the stands, the slope is nevertheless significant.
The building, classified ERP 2nd category type L no longer meets the standards relating to this category in terms of ssecurity.
Similarly, due to its construction method and materials, this establishment remains energy-intensive and well beyond the recommendations in force.
Finally, the surroundings and the visibility of the building from the public space do not currently ensure not good readability.
